Samatha’s parents divorced when she was young, and she then lived in East Sussex with her mother, attending Beacon Community College.

In the 1990s, Taylor Wood began pursuing her interests in photography, collaborating with Henry Bond. In 1994, she exhibited “Killing Time,” showcasing four people miming to an opera score. She continued to hold video exhibitions, including “Travesty of a Mockery” and “Pent-Up,” and was nominated for a Turner Prize in 1998 and won the Most Promising Young Artist at the Venice Biennale. In 2000, she worked on the photomural at Selfridges store in London, which depicted various cultural icons. Two years later, she completed a video portrait of David Beckham, commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. She also worked on the project “Crying Men,” featuring numerous Hollywood actors, leading to a significant increase in her net worth.

In 2004, Sam ventured into films, first by making the film installation called “Strings.” She then directed the short film “Love You More” before directing “Nowhere Boy,” covering John Lennon’s relationship with his mother and the creation of the band the Quarrymen, which led to the Beatles. The film aired at the London Film Festival, received positive reviews, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 2010. The following year, she worked on the short film “Daydream,” starring Liberty Ross and JJ Field, and directed the film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which she later expressed regret for. Despite this, all of her film work has contributed significantly to building her net worth further.

In 2011, Sam was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her artistic efforts.

For her personal life, Taylor Wood married art dealer Jay Jopling in 1997, and they had two daughters but separated in 2008. The following year, she began a relationship with actor Aaron Johnson after meeting on the set of “Nowhere Boy,” and they married three years later. They took the name Taylor-Johnson and have two children. Sam has been diagnosed with cancer twice – in 1997 with colon cancer, and three years later with breast cancer. According to her, yoga and transcendental meditation have helped her recover.

1[on some favorite things, 2011:] I’ve got a couple of favorite cameras, but the Leica M7 is the one I like to carry with me at all times. Otherwise, I end up using my iPhone camera. I prefer to stick with film so the mistakes I make aren’t just white-washed by digital life. Another favorite belonging is a postcard of Francis Bacon in Primrose Hill. It’s a place I visit nearly every day and is close to where I live; it’s where I think and breathe. It’s great to see the park in the 1960s and realize nothing has really changed. I also have a ‘Kiss Me Quick Hat’ which is a memento from Nowhere Boy (2009) [Taylor Wood’s directorial debut]. I didn’t keep much paraphernalia from the film but this was special as the day we used it, everything was going really well. It brings back good memories. My Andy Warhol book is also very special to me – he’s definitely an inspiration for me, especially in my film work. I love his ability to break rules. There’s also The Velvet Underground and Nico LP – one of the best covers ever. And inside, some of the best music, ever.
